COSM 72V - Esthetician Theory and Practice
Course Descriptions
- Prerequisite: "C" or higher in COSM 70 and in 71L
- Instructor approval required
- COSM majors only
Continuation of esthetician theory and lab. Hours apply toward the 600 hours required for Esthetician to qualify for the State Board Examination. Repeatable 3 times.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of COSM 72V, the student will be able to:

- Define the interactions between the 10 major body systems.
- Memorize the parts of the following systems in relation to the upper body:

- nerve types
- nerve functions
- Define the following aspects of the circulatory system:
- divisions
- composition
- functions
- Explain the endocrine system and its effects on the health of the body.
- Identify the following systems:
- digestive
- excretory
- respiratory
- integumentary
- reproductive
- Recognize the effects of different chemicals on the skin.
- Choose correct products for each client's skin type.
- Recognize the effects of skin care products are based on chemical reactions.
- Identify the different types of cosmetic ingredients.
- Describe the uses of different electrically powered machines in skin care treatments.
- Define the basics of electricity and electrotherapy.
- Discuss the effects of nutrition on skin health.
- Explain advanced treatments and ingredients used in esthetics.
- Explain the responsibilities of running a spa or salon business.
- Apply business knowledge to a spa- or salon-opening project.
- List the basic principles of selling salon products and services.
- Explain the purpose of marketing and promotions.
- Describe the qualities needed to be successful in a service profession.
- Demonstrate effective techniques for writing a resume.
