College Credit for OESM Training
If you have completed classes offered by non-college organizations (excluding military training *), you may be able to get college credit. To qualify:
- The course(s) must cover the same content as an OESM course offered by HCC.
- Certificate of completion of course must have your name and date on it
- Hours of training must equal credits. 16 hours = 1 credit. Combination of training classes can equal an OESM course.
The training institution must be in the HCC articulation database. If not in database, you need to provide detailed information on:
The institution:
- Name, Address, Phone Number, Website, if available
- Mission, Standards, Professional Organizations which recognize training program.
The course:
- Course Title
- Course Description
- Course Syllabus or Outline
- Training Hours
- Evaluation of completion of course- written test, practical or hands-on, project.
- Currency of training
Steps:
- Look up course and training institution in HCC’s articulation database.
- If you cannot find course in database, e-mail Marilynn Ito-Won, Counselor at Marilynn@hcc.hawaii.edu with course alpha, number, title, training institution, address.
- Marilynn will check further in the articulation database, as sometimes entry into the database is confusing.
- If course is not in articulation database, check to see if the non-college training you completed matches an OESM course. OESM course descriptions and syllabi are posted on the OESM web site.
- If training institution is not in the database, provide Marilynn with:
- Name of training institutionv
- Address, Phone, Website
- Mission
- Standards
- Professional organizations that recognize training programs
- If course is not in database, provide Marilynn with:
- Course Title
- Course Description
- Course Syllabus or Outline
- Training Hours
- Evaluation of Completion of course written test, practical or hands on project.
- Currency of Training (for example: update yearly, no expiration date)
- Certificate with your name
- Course waiver/substitution is needed if training is from different organizations.
