ABRP 62 - Metal Straightening Body Filler Techniques
- ABRP majors only
This course prepares the student for the program. It orients the student to the safety practices in the shop environment. Students will gain an understanding of the program requirements, college policies, and occupational/industry expectations as well as an insight into career opportunities. This course will also introduce the student to the use of basic hand tools, working with light gauge metal, and plastic (filler) repair.
Contact: 60 hours total. 6 hours lecture; 18 hours lab per week over 2.5 weeks
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of ABRP 62, the student will be able to:
- Identify the necessary tools to straighten damaged sheet metal
- Straighten a damaged metal panel close to original contours
- Shrink metal back to original size and shape
- Select the correct filler and tools needed to perform final metal finishing
- Properly clean and prepare the repair area before applying plastic filler
- Properly mix and apply plastic body filler to a properly prepared area
- Understand how to use a variety of specialty fillers used in the auto body industry
- Restore the original contour and shape of a straightened panel using plastic body filler
