ABRP 76 - Advanced Welding Methods
- Prerequisite: ABRP 65
- ABRP majors only
Students will be introduced to the theory of advanced welding employed in welding different metal alloys.
Contact: 60 hours total. 6 hours lecture; 18 hours lab per week over 2.5 weeks
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of ABRP 76, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate fundamental procedures to properly set up and tune a MIG welder for use on automotive aluminum. Student will know how variables, such as wire types, wire speed, and shielding gases are different for aluminum compared to steel
- Understand what qualifies as an acceptable bead on aluminum. Student will be able to perform a basic aluminum weld bead using a MIG welder
- Demonstrate fundamental procedures to properly set up and tune a TIG welder for use on automotive aluminum
- Understand what qualifies as an acceptable bead on aluminum. Student will be able to perform a basic aluminum weld bead using a TIG welder
