AJ 200 - Procedures in the Hawaii Justice System

  • Prerequisite or Corequisite: AJ 101

Using the State of Hawaii’s justice system as an example, judicial procedures are examined from arrest through the court process and final disposition.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of AJ 200, the student will be able to:

  • Compare and contrast search and seizure requirements for the United States Constitution and the Constitution for the State of Hawaii.
  • List and explain 4 distinct areas relating to the visible cost of crime.
  • Define Exclusionary Rule and Fruit of Poisoned Tree doctrines.
  • Compare and contrast Probable Cause and Reasonable Suspicion.
  • Summarize Weeks v. United States and Mapp v. Ohio.
  • Explain criminal procedures before, during, and after trial.
