Kalaeloa Airport (JRF - "John Rogers Field") - located along the southwest shoreline of the island of Oahu is the former Barbers Point Naval Air Station. It is approximately eight nautical miles west of Honolulu International Airport (HNL) and about 20 miles via highway from downtown Honolulu. Built after the attack on Pearl Harbor, as a naval aviation facility, it remained a Naval Air Station until closed under the Base Realignment and Closure Commission. In July 1999, The State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation, Airports Division assumed operations of Kalaeloa Airport. Kalaeloa Airport is classified as a reliever airport for HNL. Honolulu Community College/University of North Dakota flight operations are conducted at Kalaeloa Airfield, the primary general aircraft training airfield for Oahu.

Major Kalaeloa Activities
Aviation tenants include the Airports Division, State of Hawaii as the airport operating agency with control tower, airport operations, a hangar and 750 acres. The Hawaii National Guard with 150 acres includes two large hangars and ramp space for future operations The USCG owns hangars and administrative buildings to conduct aircraft operations and maintenance. USCG aircraft include C-130s and HH-63 helicopters. The Honolulu Community College, University of Hawaii operates a flight training center at Hangar 111.
