CA 125 - Beginning Graphic Design
- CA majors only
An introductory course in graphic design solutions, to include the application of art and communication skills to problem solving for visual solutions for business and industry needs. Emphasis is on design fundamentals; communicative concepts, strategy and problem solving processes; typography; as well as various layout formats.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of CA 125, the student will be able to:
- Use the vocabulary for design, printing, and related fields.
- Employ the tools for design, printing, and related fields.
- Perform the steps of the design process at a beginning level:
- investigate client needs
- do marketing research
- define the design problem
- problem solve
- develop an idea or concept
- do thumbnails
- do roughs
- do comps
- do presentation art
- Apply the principles of design to assigned projects using typography or images to communicate.
- Select appropriately from various technical alternatives to achieve effective design solutions.
- Write technical specifications, project objectives, and reports.
- Do oral presentations.
- Recognize the three basic types of design:
- informational
- editorial
- promotional
- Apply the design process to various formats.
- Organize time and maintain schedules to meet deadlines.
