CENT 110 - Introduction to Information Systems

Course Description

  • Prerequisite: ICS 100 or ICS 101

This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental concepts and skills of software development. Students learn how programs are written and what the fundamental building blocks are. Students are introduced to the software development process. Topics such as compilers, interpreters, clients and servers, introduction to naming issues, programming languages and syntax are covered. Cross-listed at ICS 110.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of CENT 110, the student will be able to:

  • Write simple programs that use input, output, selection statements, and repetition statements.
  • Explain the steps involved in the programming process.
  • Solve simple problems and express those solutions as algorithms.
  • Write, test, and debug elementary programs.
  • Describe how programming relates to their careers.
