CENT 140 - Computer Networking I
Course Description
- Prerequisite: CENT 130 and PHYS 131
This course introduces the OSI model and industry standards related to networking. It defines and describes different network topologies, and introduces IP addressing including subnet masks. Students perform basic network copper cabling.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of CENT 140, the student will be able to:
- Describe WAN standards and protocols.
- Explain the functions of routing and routed protocols.
- Identify commonly used distance vector routing protocols such as RIP and IGRP.
- Describe link state routing protocols.
- Identify commonly used link state routing protocols such as OSPF and IS-IS.
- Perform router configurations including hostnames, passwords, ethernet interfaces, serial interfaces, distance vector routing protocols, and access lists
- Set up and configure a network using at least two routers, including routing protocols and access control lists.
