FIRE 102 - Fundamentals of Fire Prevention
Course Description
- Prerequisite: ENG 22/60 OR placement in ENG 100
- FIRE majors only
Introduction to modern fire prevention, public relations involved, introduction to national and local codes used in prevention. An overview of public prevention programs, new technologies used in prevention, inspection procedures and guidelines, current problems, legislation, and enforcement of fire prevention. May be taken on a CR/N basis.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of FIRE 102, the student will be able to:
- Define and discuss the history of protection
- Define and discuss fire prevention resources and agency responsibilities
- Define and review property loss statistics
- Discuss fire prevention functions
- Discuss general public fire education
- Discuss development and enforcement of fire prevention laws and regulations
- Discuss responsibility of state fire marshals, local fire departments, and property owners
- Discuss investigating fire and fire brigades
