FIRE 107 - Fire Fighting Tactics and Strategies
Course Description
- Prerequisite or Corequisite: FIRE 101 and FIRE 102
- FIRE majors only
Introduction to Fireground planning and coordination, extinguishment tactics and strategies, functions of different fire companies, various tactical operations, types of extinguishment agents and uses. Pre-planning and command systems, size and types of incidents. Discussion of modern fire problems and suppression tactics and strategies involved. May be taken on a CR/N basis.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of FIRE 107, the student will be able to:
- Define the terminology involved in fire behavior on a fire scene
- Discuss fire ground planning and coordination
- Define various tactical and strategically operations on large and small fire scenes
- Define and discuss various agents used
- Demonstrate the ability to implement the incident command system
- Draw up a preplan and command system
- Discuss the differing approaches based on size and type of incident
- Define major problems of the modern fire environment in the United States
- List suppression strategies and tactics to deal with those larger problems
