FIRE 117 - Basic Rescue in the Fire Service
Course Description
- Recommended Prep: FIRE 101
- FIRE majors only
To introduce definitions, terminology, and provide students with a basic knowledge of rescue. To understand the four phases of rescue: locate and access victims, stabilize the situation, and transport the victims to safety while managing injuries and avoiding risk or injury to the victims or rescuers. May be taken on a CR/N basis.

Upon successful completion of FIRE 117, the student will be able to:

- Know the rescue functions under the ICS System

- Describe water searches: initial actions, strategy, and tactics
- Explain collapsed structure and debris searches
- Describe how to gain access in an urban setting

- Explain how to gain access in remote areas
- Describe the medical care in the rescue setting
- Discuss the communications for rescuer emergency care
- Discuss patient assessment in rescue medical care
