MARR 50 - Mold Fabrication

  • Prerequisite: MARR 43 or instructor approval
  • MARR majors only

This course uses the hull form constructed in earlier courses as a pattern to fabricate a production mold. Tooling gelcoat application is also covered.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of MARR 50, the student will be able to:

  • Define terms standard to the mold making industry
  • Design a laminating schedule for the mold
  • Apply gel-coat to the mold
  • State fundamentals of insuring quality mold cosmetics
  • Apply manually and sprayable mold release systems
  • Repair surface imperfections in the mold
  • Install compressed air release systems in mold
  • nderstand and practice procedures for removing the mold from the plug
  • Create supports for the mold
  • Understand and use a Chopper Gun
