SMP 22 - Fabrication Processes (Architectural)

  • Corequisite: SMP 20 & 21 & 23
  • SMP majors only

Emphasis on variously shaped gutters, gutter miters, hangers, flashing of all types, downspout, expansion joints and other similar work. Standard installation practices.

Contact: 2 hours lecture; 6 hours lab per week

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of SMP 22, the student will be able to:

  • Produce orthographic drawings for items requiring fabrication
  • Identify the base rules for order of operation in fabrication
  • Layout, cut, notch, and bend in proper order, fittings and components used in sheet metal and plastic
  • Identify the different gauges of sheet metal, forming methods, and connection processes after layout
  • Identification and installation of common fasteners used in sheet metal work
  • Properly mix and apply acids used in soldering
  • Produce soldered joints on galvanized iron
